Jason Derulo is joining The Voice Australia as a coach this year. Before the season premieres this Sunday, the show shared a preview of Derulo’s first time coaching. It looks like he’ll be bringing plenty of fun to the Blind Auditions.

The Voice Australia Previews New Coach Jason Derulo

Derulo was announced as The Voice Australia‘s newest coach back in March of this year. He joins returning coaches Jessica Mauboy, Rita Ora, and Guy Sebastian. Unfortunately, Keith Urban chose not to return after making a comeback to the show in 2021.

In a preview for Season 12 of the show, Derulo can be seen singing his own name like he’s known to do in his music. Fellow coach Sebastian then gets in on the trend by singing, “Guy Theodore Sebastian.” This makes Derulo laugh.

The video also shows Derulo showing off some impressive microphone flips and tap dancing, and he even tries his hand at opera singing. He also shows his support for the auditioning artists, telling one singer, “You have an amazing gift. The world needs to hear it.”

Derulo Is ‘Blown Away’ by Australia’s Talent

“Australia’s always been one of my favorite places in the world, so to be here and to be feeling all of this fresh energy, it’s pretty amazing,” Derulo said in a video posted to the show’s YouTube. “And I gotta say that I’m very blown away by the talent.”

He said he wanted to join the show “so that I could help someone’s dream come true.” The singer added that people might underestimate him because he’s the newest coach, but he emphasized that he’s “coming out swinging.”

Derulo said he’s looking for “an actual star” who is “able to capture an audience.”

The new season of The Voice Australia premieres this Sunday, August 6, at 7 pm on Channel 7 and 7plus.
