The Masked Singer used to be the most secretive show ever. Now, it seems like the contestants are all spoiling their eliminations before it even airs on television. The Cluedle-Doo has been the biggest mystery of the season for the judges and viewers alike. Before tonight’s big reveal, Donnie Wahlberg announced an upcoming concert, feeding into the speculation that he is the one under the mask.

In a season where the most shocking thing to happen was the reveal of Kermit the Frog, The Cluedle-Doo was the biggest kept mystery. While we may have predicted Wahlberg is under the mask, most viewers were probably unaware of Cluedle-Doo’s identity until now. Even Wahlberg’s wife Jenny McCarthy had absolutely no clue who the mystery guest was when the episode was filmed.

One thing that drew viewers into the first few seasons of The Masked Singer was the element of mystery. It wasn’t as easy to guess which celebrities were under the masks. Most celebrities go on the show to re-launch their careers and promote upcoming projects, but this season’s contestants seem to all drop a big announcement just hours before they’re revealed. We have to assumed there are more subtle ways to capitalize on the attention brought by The Masked Singer without spoiling eliminations.

Wahlberg posted on Instagram about an upcoming show that New Kids On The Block has at Fenway Park. The show was first scheduled for July 16 and has now been rescheduled for August 6. Is it a coincidence that the band decided to make their big show announcement on the same day Wahlberg will be unmasked?

Hanson Spoiled Their Elimination Last Week

Last week ahead of The Russian Dolls’ big reveal, Hanson released a brand new song. This was an obvious giveaway of their elimination before it even aired on television. It looks like both Hanson and New Kids On The Block had the same idea. At this point, contestants putting out new work or announcements before their reveals is all a marketing tactic.

When the episodes air and their reveals are shown on television, the contestants know that it’s the time to promote their work. More people will be searching them up, checking out their social media profiles, and have genuine curiosities about them. What we can’t wrap our brains around is why they spoil the fun of the show by releasing these things beforehand.

We love that The Masked Singer presents these kinds of opportunities to the contestants. We just wish the show maintained the element of surprise that it had back in its very first season especially with a character like The Cluedle-Doo.
